SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Brandon McCarthy, tender right elbow, and Kevin Millwood, sore hamstring, both threw off the mound on Friday.
Millwood threw off a flat surface first and then off a three-quarters mound.
"He threw all his pitches," pitching coach Mark Connor said.
Both are scheduled for a full bullpen session on Sunday, but Connor said he has not set a timetable for them to pitch in a game. Connor said both are making progress. Millwood said he hopes to throw in a game next week if all goes well on Sunday.
"Brandon will throw some breaking balls and changeups on Sunday, get him spinning some balls," Connor said. "Both are making progress."
The Rangers do not believe either injury to the two starting right-handers is serious.
"They're yellow flags, not red flags," general manager Jon Daniels said. "The best sign how I felt is we haven't gone out and pursued additional help at this point. I think they should be ready to go [when the season starts]."
Harrison debut: Left-hander Matt Harrison, one of the players the Rangers acquired in the Mark Teixeira trade, tossed two scoreless innings in a Friday start against the Angels. He allowed one hit, a double, walked one and struck out Reggie Willitis to begin the game.
"I thought he did a great job," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "I thought he came out there and kept his ball down. We thought maybe he might be nervous, but the kid had poise. He got through his two innings fine."
Perfect inning: C.J. Wilson retired all three batters he faced and struck out two in his first spring outing.
"It's a pretty good start," Washington said. "He used his changeup, his breaking ball, popped some fastballs, got in on some hitters. That's what it takes. It's important for everyone to have success, not only C.J. But it's nice he went out and got his inning of work in and controlled the damage and got out of there."
Base-running blunders: Ian Kinsler, Jason Ellison and Ryan Roberts were all out trying to steal bases against the Angels. Kinsler was out in a rundown in the first inning when there was a hit-and-run and Ellison missed the sign.
In the third inning with Kinsler on second and Ellison on first, Ellison was thrown out at second on an attempted double steal.

"It's a lefty on the mound and if you're on first and don't get the jump, you don't go," Washington said. "We're going to get it together as we go along. We're trying to be aggressive. It didn't go very well today, but we're not going to stop. As we get deeper into spring, we'll start making better decisions."
He said it: "Passion is what I want in our playing personnel, and I want them to be winners. I'm a believer there are certain people that are winners and you want to identify those people and try to get as many in the organization as you can. That's for all levels. They start winning in Level A and that's their MO. That's a challenge. But I'll take a guy with less talent and more heart."
-- Rangers president Nolan Ryan
