Jays turn to Burnett against Tribe
Toronto (13-12) at Cleveland (14-8), 7:05 p.m. ET
A.J. Burnett will have an opportuntiy to extend the Blue Jays' winning streak to three games when he takes the mound on Tuesday night against the Indians.
Everytime Burnett has thrown at night this season, he's been downright nasty. In three twilight starts, the Blue Jays righty is 2-0 with a 1.31 ERA, the lowest night ERA of any American Legaue pitcher. His record during the day is just 0-1 with a 12.27 ERA in two starts.
Lately, Burnett has been acting like a second ace behind Roy Halladay. In his last two starts, Burnett has allowed just two earned runs over 14 innings. He is holding opponents to a .216 batting average, ranking ninth among AL pitchers.
"I always try to feed off this guy I'm throwing behind," Burnett said after his last start, referring to Halladay. "It goes back to that feeling of competition. You watch him pitch and you don't want to do anything but try to be better than him. I have a long way to go, but I just try to repeat what he did and get some momentum with this team."
The Indians will counter with the ace of their pitching staff, C.C. Sabathia. The veteran lefty has yet to lose a game this season. In his last outing, Sabathia pitched five scoreless innings before falling apart in the sixth inning. In that outing, the Rangers scored five runs on six straight hits to stop Sabathia from becoming the Indians' first pitcher since 2004 to start the season 4-0.Pitching matchup
