MARINERS 10, RANGERS 3
at Surprise, Ariz.
Tuesday, March 6

Mariners at the plate: Jamie Burke roped a two-run single to jump-start the Mariners in the second. Seattle batted around in the ninth to break open a 4-3 game, with Tony Torcato's three-run double keying the six-run splurge.

Rangers at the plate: After 16 hitless outs against four other pitchers, Michael Young singled off Eric O'Flaherty with one out in the sixth. Ramon Vazquez put the Rangers on the board in the seventh with a two-run triple, then scored on a single by Marlon Byrd.

Mariners on the mound: Left-hander Horacio Ramirez pitched no-hit ball through three innings to improve his spring line to five innings and one hit allowed, including a charity-game start against San Diego. Three other pitchers kept Texas hitless until Jon Huber was jumped for three runs in the seventh.

Rangers on the mound: Starter Jamey Wright went two innings and allowed one hit and two runs -- both unearned -- giving Texas pitchers a string of 25 innings without an earned run until righty Thomas Diamond gave up Ben Broussard's RBI double in the sixth. Willie Eyre bailed Diamond out of another jam in the seventh and put up two shutout innings.

Cactus League records: Mariners 1-5, Rangers 3-2.

Up next: The Mariners are back in Peoria on Wednesday to host the Giants, with right-hander Felix Hernandez making his second start of the spring. The Rangers stay in Surprise Stadium to host Arizona in their first of two spring meetings with the Diamondbacks. Lefty John Koronka makes his second start. In a morning B game, Kevin Millwood will start against Kansas City and Gil Meche.
