Manager Buck Showalter doesn't believe it.
"That's all?" said Showalter. "It seems like he's got 5,000. I'm kind of amazed he doesn't have more."
Young will become the ninth Ranger to compile 1,000 hits. With 826 games played entering Tuesday, he will also be the fastest to reach the plateau, topping Buddy Bell, who got his 1,000th hit for Texas in 869 games.
Young won the American League batting title in 2005 with a .331 average, but Showalter even likes Young's ability in things he doesn't do.
"I vote for [Young] every year for that hit-and-run skill thing, but I never hit-and-run with him," said Showalter. "But I know he'd be really good at it."
Millwood still uncertain: Kevin Millwood knows he will not pick up a ball on Tuesday, but does not know his status for his scheduled Friday start.
"I feel a little bit better," Millwood said. "There's a little discomfort in there, but every day it seems to get a little better."
Millwood left in the fourth inning of his last start on Sunday with pain in his right biceps.
If John Wasdin were to start in place of Millwood on Friday, that would give the 32-year-old an extended rest through the All-Star break. If Millwood gets his way, however, that won't be the plan.
"I haven't given into that yet," said Millwood. "I'm going to see the doctor again this evening and see what he says. It's a possiblity, but I'm not banking on it yet."
Millwood also said that to be comfortable starting on Friday, he would have to at least throw on the side Thursday. If the pain in his arm isn't gone by then, skipping the start will become much more likely.
Loe getting better: Nothing like a shot in the arm to get things going for Kameron Loe.
Loe, who was put on the disabled list June 19 with a bone bruise in his right elbow, received a cortisone shot Monday. The results of the shot have been positive.
"It was getting better and better in Arizona," said Loe, who went to the Spring Training facility to train while on the DL. "But since [the shot] on Monday, it's gotten much better."
Loe hopes to toss sometime Wednesday and have a rehab start sometime during the All-Star break.
There is a possibility that Loe will return to the Rangers as a reliever.
Rain, rain, go away? The Dallas-Ft. Worth area is on a fireworks ban for the Fourth of July due to the recent drought.
Naturally, the first rain-delayed game in Arlington in 2006 came on Independence Day. The start of the contest between Texas and Toronto was delayed over an hour.
Briefly: The Rangers are 20-16 in Fourth of July games. ... Pitcher Edinson Volquez (Triple-A Oklahoma) and Ben Harrison (Class A Bakersfield) were named the Rangers Minor League Pitcher and Player of the Month for June. ... The Rangers have not scored in the first inning in 12 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the Major Leagues.
Up next: Vicente Padilla (7-5, 4.47 ERA) faces Toronto right-hander Casey Janssen (6-6, 4.38 ERA) in the series finale Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. CT.
