CLEVELAND - Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira won't be joining his three infield teammates at the All-Star Game in Houston next week, but he 's being saluted for some recent good work.

Teixeira, who was named the American League's Player of the Week for the period ending July 4, just hopes his recent tear is a sign of things to come in the second half of the season.

"It's kind of unfortunate that the All-Star break is coming up, because I'd like to play about 50 games in a row," Teixeira said.

Teixeira led the AL with five homers, 11 RBIs, 10 runs scored and 26 total bases last week.

If Teixeira stays hot and Alfonso Soriano, Michael Young and Hank Blalock maintain the quality they've shown all year, the Rangers infield could collectively put up some staggering numbers the rest of the way.

"Some guys go their whole careers and don't get to play with one All-Star on the same infield," Teixeira said. "I get to play in an infield with three All-Stars every day. I'm just trying to soak it all in."

Rangers outfielder Kevin Mench was also nominated for AL Player of the Week honors. Teixeira will receive a Tourneau luxury Swiss timepiece for winning the award.
