This Day in Baseball History
February 19, 1953 > Boston Red Sox star Ted Williams crash-lands his fighter plane after flying a combat mission during the Korean War. The heroic Williams survives the landing and will return to play 37 games for the Red Sox late in the 1953 season. Williams had missed all but six games of the 1952 season, as well as all of the 1943-45 seasons while serving in the Armed Forces.
