January 17, 1977 > The Kansas City Royals release 18-year veteran Tommy Davis, leading to his retirement. In 1962, Davis drove in an amazing 153 runs, a plateau that won't be surpassed again until the 1998 season. A two-time batting champion, Davis will finish with a .294 lifetime average.
