Right-handed pitcher Alexi Ogando reinstated from paternity leave list; Infielder Andres Blanco placed on 15-day disabled list08/09/2011 4:56 PM ET
Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has reinstated right-handed pitcher Alexi Ogando from the Major League Paternity Leave List. To make room for Ogando on the active roster, the club has placed infielder Andres Blanco on the 15-day disabled list with lower back inflammation.
Ogando was placed on the Major League Paternity Leave List on Saturday to travel to the Dominican Republic following the birth of his child. He has rejoined the club and is scheduled to start tonight's game against Seattle. Ogando, 27, has gone 11-5 with a 2.88 ERA in 21 games/starts for Texas this season. The 2011 American League All-Star ranks among A.L. leaders in wins (T5th, 11), opponents average (6th, .217), and ERA (7th, 2.88).
Ogando joins Colby Lewis (April 15-17) and Ian Kinsler (June 8-10) as Rangers to be placed on the new Paternity Leave List in 2011.
Blanco was also on the 15-day disabled list July 7-30 with a stress reaction in his lower back. He played last night as a defensive replacement at third base and will not be eligible to be activated until August 24. Blanco has batted .206 with 2 home runs and 2 RBI in 28 games for Texas this season, including 16 starts.
With these moves, the Rangers still have 39 players on the club's 40-man roster.
