Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has officially added right-handed pitcher Colby Lewis to the 40-man roster. To make room on the roster for Lewis, the club has designated infielder Joe Inglett for assignment.

Lewis, 30, signed with the Rangers on Tuesday. He returns to the U.S. after pitching the last two years in Japan. He went 26-17 with a 2.82 ERA (111 ER/354.1 IP) and just 46 walks and 369 strikeouts in 55 games/54 starts over 2008-09 with Nippon Professional Baseball's Hiroshima Carp. Originally selected by Texas in the supplemental first round (38th overall) of the 1999 June draft, Lewis spent the first six years of his professional career in the Texas organization. He has gone 12-15 with a 6.71 ERA over 72 games/34 starts in his major league career with Texas (2002-04), Detroit (2006), and Oakland (2007).

Inglett, 31, was acquired on a waiver claim from Toronto on Dec. 4. The Rangers have 10 days to trade, release, or outright Inglett to the minor leagues. He batted .281 (25-89) with 4 doubles, one triple, and 6 RBI in 36 games for the Blue Jays in 2009. He has a career .293 average in the majors over in 211 games with Cleveland (2006) and Toronto (2007-09).

With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
