ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers announced a majority the organization's 2008 minor league staff today. The staff announced today is below:
The Oklahoma staff remains the same as 2007, with Bobby Jones returning for his 21st season as a coach or manager in the Texas organization.
The only change at Double-A Frisco is at manager, as 2007 Texas League Manager of the Year Dave Anderson has been promoted to the organization's Field Coordinator. Scott Little is the new manager at Frisco, joining the Rangers' system after spending this past season as manager at Double-A Harrisburg for the Washington Nationals. The 44-year-old Little played briefly for the Pirates in 1989, and spent 15 years with the Pittsburgh organization as a coach, manager, roving instructor, player, and field coordinator.
Former major leaguer Damon Berryhill has been named manager at High-A Bakersfield. He will be in his fourth season with the Texas organization, his first as a manager. Berryhill, who will turn 44 on Dec. 3, has spent the last three seasons as the organization's catching coordinator. Dave Chavarria returns to Bakersfield as pitching coach, a position he also held in 2005 and 2006. This will be Chavarria's eighth season in the Texas system. Brant Brown returns as the Bakersfield coach.
The Clinton staff remains intact, with manager Mike Micucci returning for a second season at the helm, his third season with the Texas organization.
The Spokane manager and coaches are expected to be finalized soon.
For the Arizona League club, Bill Richardson will be the manager. Richardson, who assisted in the Rangers' instructional league this fall, coached for over 20 years at Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks, Calif., outside of Sacramento. Pitching coach Carlos Pulido was a left-handed pitcher in the major leagues for Minnesota in 1994 and 2003-04. The 36-year-old Pulido is currently pitching in the Venezuelan Winter League, where he has gone 2-1 with a 2.57 ERA in 4 games/starts. Rounding out the Arizona staff is coach Josue Perez, who has managed the Dominican Rangers each of the last two seasons.
As for the club's roving instructors, Mike Boulanger (Hitting), Rick Adair (Pitching), and Wayne Kirby (Outfield/Baserunning) all return in their same roles as last season. Former Frisco Manager Dave Anderson, the 2007 Texas League Manager of the Year, has been promoted to be the organization's Field Coordinator. Keith Comstock, who was the pitching coach at Spokane last year, will be the Rangers' Rehab Pitching Coordinator.
