Many D-backs players are active in community outreach and team-related programs. Players volunteer their time visiting children in hospitals, reading to groups of children, participating in school visits and taking part in fundraisers for the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. Below are some of the important community programs and events supported by D-backs players.
Each year the Arizona Diamondbacks turn Chase Field into a winter wonderland for their annual Winter Classic event. Students from various local Title I schools and non-profit agencies are invited to Chase Field to participate in this holiday event filled with gifts and fun activities. In addition to meeting Santa and participating in games and activities on the field, each student receives a new pair of shoes and a sweatshirt. D-backs players join in on the fun to help the kids try on their new shoes and sweatshirts.
During Spring Training each season, in partnership with Gila River Casinos, D-backs players take a caravan trip to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley Gila River Branch to spend the day teaching and playing with the Boys & Girls Club kids. D-backs players teach the kids the fundamentals of the game during a clinic, interact with the kids playing board games, pool and air hockey in the Teen Center, and sign autographs.
To help lift the spirits of the kids in our community, Arizona Diamondbacks players regularly visit young patients at St. Joseph's Hospital and Phoenix Children's Hospital during the season. The players sign autographs, take photos and distribute D-backs gift bags for young fans going through tough times.
